Gambling, including online betting through unregistered websites, remains illegal in Japan.
The country actively works to limit access to illegal gambling platforms and targets both individuals and operators involved in such activities.

His gambling expenditure is estimated at around 100 million yen ($679,000).
Another arrest involved Kenta Yamamoto, a 27-year-old announcer at Fuji TV.
Broader Crackdown:
Japan has been strict in prosecuting citizens involved in illegal gambling, including those playing on overseas platforms.
Recently, a member of the boy band JO1 was also arrested for illegal online gambling.
The government is actively working on legislation to further regulate and reduce the influence of illegal gambling sites, both domestic and international.
